Blood Bounty: Wanted Dead but Alive

"Bounty hunter.
Bank robber.
Corpse"

Owen Atkinson's debut novella, Blood Bounty: Wanted Dead but Alive, tells the story of Garrett Adams, a gold panner turned bounty hunter turned bank robber who's been murdered by his gang.

This would be bad enough, except Garrett didn't stay dead.

Hungry for revenge, Garrett does everything he can to find the people who betrayed him and make them pay. The only problem is that he's facing something much worse than a band of backstabbing bank robbers.

I found this book incredibly hard to put down. It starts with a bang (or six) and the action doesn't let up from there. We're thrown headfirst into Garrett's world, and I thought the author did a fantastic job creating well-rounded, compelling characters. All of the bank robbers were interesting and three-dimensional, and even minor characters like Musgraves had plenty of substance. The dialogue was realistic, funny, and thoroughly engaging.

The Western atmosphere practically leapt off the page, and the revenge plot kept me on the edge of my seat, eager to know what would happen next.

I can't say enough good things about this novella. Blood Bounty: Wanted Dead but Alive is a brilliant debut by Owen Atkinson, and I highly recommend it for horror and weird Western fans.
